Performance enablement is a people management best
practice which we have always followed at Coca-Cola. It is about creating
and sustaining a culture in which first of all everyone is given a fair
chance to perform well, and then a culture in which those who deliver
more, are rewarded more than others. It is more about performance than it
is about effort or years of service. It is about thought-leadership, more
than just thinking. This especially resonates well with millennials who
espouse clarity, transparency, openness and directness. They want quick
rewards, recognition and career growth. We want quick results. It is
important to set parameters of objectives which allow quick wins and to
guide them constantly to bigger and better goals; otherwise they will get
bored and move on. Or to put it another way, we play management T20
matches rather than test matches.
