1. People think all that they have learnt is enough and should last
them a lifetime. Thirst for knowledge and growth is missing.
2. Added pressure, on a single individual, of bearing financial
and social responsibilities for multiple family members. This makes people risk
averse.
As a result we see them react by sitting in their positions and
blocking the career growths of others. We also observe them wanting close
management in the form of detailed black and white instructions for most all
work that is to be done. This has to be counteracted through investments in
their growth and encouraging them to take on incremental challenges. We need to
help them diversify their portfolio in subtle ways through job shadowing and
building transferable skills. This assists them in coming out of their shell
without triggering an insecure backlash. Mentoring with those who they
trust and can relate to also can be beneficial.
