I believe managers shouldn’t have to go over each and every
number and piece of data reported to them. The onus of data integrity lies with
the person preparing the assignment. This should not be slack because of the
oversight that the manager will invariably provide. The organizational
structure comes into play in such situations. I worked for a lean organization
at the outset of my career, where we knew that if we made a mistake, our necks
would be on the line. And that perhaps was what ultimately ingrained a keen
sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and above all, accuracy in our
work. A lean organization has its inherent advantages. You have direct
interface with the senior management relatively early in your career. This
enables you to develop a strong work ethic, instills confidence, and pushes you
to achieve excellence.
