Old guard | Anonymous

Our organisations have to contend with the old guard who become comfortable in their zones, don’t match your pace and don’t perform. Deep in denial they think they are untouchable as they have done much for the organisation. They are encouraged by people who develop a soft corner for them and are unwilling to take a bold step out of concern for the impact on personal lives.

A remedy may be to measure performance on the basis both of what is being done and how it is being done. If people are delivering on the what and not on the how they should find limited time and space to get back on track before warnings and eventual termination decide their fate.
