I learned from Mr. Syed Babar Ali that leaders should not be like Banyan trees, because nothing grows under a Banyan tree. We have ample fear in our country’s managers that leads them to dread being replaced, hound credit and blame their teams, when instead they should be coaching, guiding and mentoring others and through that being pushed up the organizational hierarchy.
Send clear messages that nobody is indispensable by taking action. I remember, in my career, saying thank you and goodbye to people who when confronted about such behavior threatened to leave for better jobs. Worked like a charm!
